Episode 25: Fishing Trip Mystery Case (Part 2)

{Episode 25}

Opening: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7URqQICTN7w

ProfessorAgasa: Last time, on Detective Conan...

ProfessorAgasa: We headed out into the forest to get away from the tension of the city and the Black Organization, though things seem to have cooled down.

ProfessorAgasa: Ai-kun seems to think that even out here we're in danger, which is probably true, but I'd like to try and relax at the least.

ProfessorAgasa: That said, it has been fairly uneventful so far. We'll head out this morning to go fishing, and then we'll cook them for lunch and dinner.

ProfessorAgasa: I'm glad that it seems we'll at least get to go somewhere for once without some sinister interruption.

ProfessorAgasa: {Cue title}

ProfessorAgasa: {Cue scene}

{Morning dawns on the tents}

* [TsuburayaMitsuhiko] stretches and yawns loudly. He sits up seeing the sun peeking over the horizon

* ProfessorAgasa is at the camp fire, tossing leaves on, having only started it recently. He continues to try to build it up by putting on slightly larger sticks a moment later.

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Wow! What a great day! *He stands outside of the tent looking around*

* EdogawaConan is getting up, rubbing sleep out of his eyes and feeling around for his glasses.

Ayumi: Morning...*comes out of the tent carefully, trying not to wake Ai-chan up before she's ready to be up*.

* HaibaraAi silently gets up and looks out the tent, shielding her eyes from the sun.

EdogawaConan: *grumbling about needing to find his glasses*

Ayumi: Hakase, do you need help getting breakfast ready?

Ayumi: Ayumi will go get water...*grabs the bucket and heads to the tap to refill it*

* ProfessorAgasa notices the fire is at a steady burn and puts on a log.

ProfessorAgasa: Ayumi-kun, will you bring me the egg carton from the ice-chest?

EdogawaConan: *still in the tent* What the...? I know I put them right here last night....did someone kick them in their sleep?

* ProfessorAgasa stares blankly at the open space next to him.

ProfessorAgasa: Never mind...

* Ayumi comes back with water.

Ayumi: *^_^* What else do we need, Hakase?

ProfessorAgasa: Ah, there you are, Ayumi-kun. We're having eggs for breakfast.

ProfessorAgasa: Can you get those from the ice chest?

Ayumi: Sure! *runs to get them, carefully*

* EdogawaConan leaves the tent, giving up on his glasses for now.

EdogawaConan: Morning....

* HaibaraAi walks up to Agasa

* ProfessorAgasa nods at Conan.

HaibaraAi: Did you need something?

* [TsuburayaMitsuhiko] stands next to Hakase.

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Morning Conan-kun, Haibara-san

* Ayumi brings eggs back carefully.

ProfessorAgasa: Ayumi-kun got it. We're having eggs for breakfast.

Ayumi: Here you are!

* ProfessorAgasa cracks several eggs on the side of a pan and pours them out before lowering it over the fire.

* HaibaraAi nods in response

Ayumi: Oniisan? *looking at the glasses-less Conan*

* HaibaraAi notices Conan without his glasses

* HaibaraAi raises an eyebrow in question

EdogawaConan: They weren't where I put them.

EdogawaConan: I'll find them later, it's not like I need them to see.

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Weird... I wonder if a raccoon stole them?

Ayumi: But...they're part of 'Conan', right?

* ProfessorAgasa whisks the eggs and cooks them on the fire until they are ready before distributing them.

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Un... I guess we don't have to worry about it out here. Since Genta-kun is the only one who doesn't know... Speaking of him, where is he? Don't tell me he's still sleeping...

Ayumi: He should wake up as soon as he smells breakfast...

* [TsuburayaMitsuhiko] nods in agreement

EdogawaConan: Yeah...nice to leave the glasses off sometimes...be myself for a few minutes. *wry smile*

* [TsuburayaMitsuhiko] frowns.

KojimaGenta: *sniffing* Eggs?

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: I guess we should get our fishing gear out.

Ayumi: Let's finish eating first...please pass the soy sauce?

EdogawaConan: *passes it* Probably a good idea. And I should figure out where the glasses got to....

* KojimaGenta eating, quiet

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: \Not even a good morning...\

* KojimaGenta blinks, staring at Conan

* KojimaGenta raises his hand, and moves it in front of Conan's eyes

* EdogawaConan bats at Genta's hand.

EdogawaConan: Hey! Keep your hands to yourself.

EdogawaConan: *guarding his food so Genta can't steal it again* If you want more ask Hakase.

Ayumi: Genta-kun, can't you even at least say good morning??

KojimaGenta: Your glasses. *points at Conan*

* HaibaraAi silently eats, glaring at Genta's behavior.

EdogawaConan: Couldn't find them this morning.

KojimaGenta: I know that! But... But you can see without them!

EdogawaConan: Yeah...most people who wear glasses can see at least a little bit without them.

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Genta-kun, people aren't blind without glasses... Most people just need them to sharpen vision.

Ayumi: And some people wear contacts instead of glasses!

Ayumi: But Conan-kun's glasses aren't very strong, because they don't need to be. Conan-kun can see pretty well even without his glasses on.

* KojimaGenta blinks, trying to understand.

KojimaGenta: So, I did it for nothing... *mumbles*

* HaibaraAi sighs

EdogawaConan: You took my glasses? Why?

EdogawaConan: *sigh* Can I have them back now? Since you've proved I don't need them to see?

HaibaraAi: Even if he couldn't see, you shouldn't have tried that. Taking advantage of someone like that really is a cruel thing to do...

KojimaGenta: *points at himself* I didn’t take them! *smiles*

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: And Conan-kun could have gotten hurt if he did need them! He could have fallen and really hurt himself… Would you give them back?

Ayumi: Genta-kun! Just give Conan-kun back his glasses, please?

KojimaGenta: Okay, okay! *rolleyes*

* EdogawaConan finishes his breakfast.

* ProfessorAgasa finished long before and is already cleaning his plate in the bucket of water Ayumi fetched.

* Ayumi helps clean dishes as everyone finishes breakfast.

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Thank you, Ayumi-chan, Hakase.

* ProfessorAgasa nods.

* ProfessorAgasa heads to the car to grab the tackle box and fishing rods.

EdogawaConan: Genta-kun? Can you grab my glasses for me?

* Ayumi is all ready to go, and sitting by the fire pulling her boots on.

* ProfessorAgasa heads the way to the fishing spot on the river.

* [TsuburayaMitsuhiko] follows Hakase

* Ayumi follows Hakase.

* EdogawaConan follows, with our without his glasses, deciding they're not all that important.

{At the river}

Ayumi: Genta-kun, hurry up!

* [TsuburayaMitsuhiko] sets up farther up river

* HaibaraAi quickly gets ready and follows

ProfessorAgasa: This part of the river is deeper than the others. That means that fish are more likely to congregate here than other places, because it will be cooler in the depths even after the sun comes up. Additionally, some fish are skittish and will only eat when below a certain depth.

* [TsuburayaMitsuhiko] nods listening to Hakase

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: And I think I have the right bait for these fish too...

* EdogawaConan sets up his fishing stuff, half-listening to Hakase.

* KojimaGenta grabs Conan's glasses

* Ayumi listens intently, wanting to catch something good to cook for dinner.

KojimaGenta: Conaaaaaaaaaan! Hereee *running*

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Don't be so loud, Genta-kun! You'll scare the fish...

HaibaraAi: Very informative Hakase, did you get that from that book about fishing you were reading the other day? *smirking*

* EdogawaConan frowns at Genta, then decides it's not worth it. The glasses are really not that important.

Ayumi: Genta-kun, you'll scare away all the fish!

Ayumi: *setting up her fishing stuff next to Conan* *whispers* Oniisan, do you want Ayumi to go get your glasses back?

* ProfessorAgasa sighs at Ai.

EdogawaConan: *whispers back* No, it's not that important. As long as I get them back before we head home...or before we meet up with anyone else.

ProfessorAgasa: It's actually a fairly commonly known fact about fishing, Ai-kun. The book I was reading was about types of bait to use, so I could stock them properly.

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Guess we were reading the same book. *smile*

ProfessorAgasa: Perhaps.

* EdogawaConan helps Ayumi set her bait before setting his own and casting.

* [TsuburayaMitsuhiko] hums quietly patiently waiting for bites

* Ayumi casts her line and settles in to wait.

* HaibaraAi sets up her bait, casts her line, and waits patiently.

ProfessorAgasa: This region apparently has an abundance of small fish, so I planned the bait accordingly.

Ayumi: We should be able to catch something for dinner pretty easily, though, right?

KojimaGenta: Dinner YAY!

* ProfessorAgasa nods at Ayumi.

ProfessorAgasa: That's why I planned out the bait. This bait should discourage the smaller fish from eating it, and giving us a better chance of getting something bigger.

* [TsuburayaMitsuhiko] feels a strong tug

Ayumi: Oh, good!

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Uwa! I think I have something…

Ayumi: Though I suppose we could also make stew or something with a bunch of little fish...

* [TsuburayaMitsuhiko] tugs at the rod, reeling and tugging

* EdogawaConan also gets a tug, and starts reeling in the fish.

Ayumi: Conan-kun, you caught something!

KojimaGenta: I'm sure that's a big fish!

* [TsuburayaMitsuhiko] with a final tug reveals a small fish covered in junk

Ayumi: *just then her line starts shaking as well* Oh! Ayumi caught something! *starts to reel it in*

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Eeeh? No fair... *pouts*

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Ayumi-chan, Conan-kun? *runs over to watch*

* HaibaraAi watches from where she's sitting with slight interest.

* KojimaGenta sets his bait

* EdogawaConan lands a fish...it's medium-sized, possibly good enough for grilling, but not enough for all of them.

Ayumi: Ah!

* Ayumi is fighting with her line...

Ayumi: Help!

EdogawaConan: Ayumi-chan, are you OK? Got a big one?

* HaibaraAi leaves her rod and goes to help Ayumi

* EdogawaConan drops his fish in the bucket and goes to help Ayumi reel her line in.

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Ayumi-chan! *grabs Ayumi's rod and helps her reel*

Ayumi: It's....really....really.....*mmph* HEAVY!

EdogawaConan: You certainly caught something....let me help.

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Un... We almost have it! *pulls hard*

KojimaGenta: I will be the one who eats Ayumi's fish!

* ProfessorAgasa looks over in interest.

* HaibaraAi grabs Ayumi so that she doesn't end up falling in.

* EdogawaConan holds Ayumi steady and helps her reel the fish in.

EdogawaConan: Hakase! I think we're gonna need your help....

KojimaGenta: Leave this to the Detective Boy's leader!

* KojimaGenta shows a huge smile and helps them

* ProfessorAgasa sits back and watches, preferring to let them succeed by their own mettle.

EdogawaConan: Careful, careful....*helping Ayumi keep turning the reel crank and pulling the line*

Ayumi: Hea~vy...

EdogawaConan: Someone grab a bucket?

* ProfessorAgasa grabs the bucket and walks over.

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Thanks, Hakase.

ProfessorAgasa: Well, pull it out before it breaks the rod.

Ayumi: *keeps pulling carefully* Almost...

* EdogawaConan grabs the line and gives it a good tug, pulling the fish above the water.

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Wow! It's biiiiig

* ProfessorAgasa raises a brow in surprise.

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Amazing, Ayumi-chan!

Ayumi: Sugoi!

ProfessorAgasa: The colors on that fish are of an Itasenpara, or Deepbody Bitterling. Normally they don't get to be that big. That fish must be particularly old and well-fed.

EdogawaConan: Can we get it into the bucket?

* ProfessorAgasa nods.

* ProfessorAgasa helps them transfer the fish from the line to the bucket.

* KojimaGenta points at the fish, as saying 'I'm eating it NOW'

* ProfessorAgasa notices something amiss when he's moving the fish.

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Genta-kun, that’s for all of us.

Ayumi: Ayumi caught the biggest fish!! *^_^*

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: What is it, Hakase? *noticing his expression*

ProfessorAgasa: I think there's something in the fish besides a hook.

EdogawaConan: No kidding...*to Ayumi* *notices Hakase* What's wrong?

* EdogawaConan goes over to investigate.

* ProfessorAgasa feels about the fish's midsection, feeling a distinct metal bump.

HaibaraAi: Hakase, what exactly does this type of fish eat?

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Metal?

ProfessorAgasa: Based on the book I read, the Deepbody Bitterling only eats in deep places because it is so skittish. They like shiny things, so they occasionally eat the bright, smaller fish.

ProfessorAgasa: It is possible it swallowed a bottle cap or something similar...

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Yeah. Don't we need to take it out before we cook it?

EdogawaConan: Well, I suppose we should cut it open then...

ProfessorAgasa: That would be wise. Actually, the poor fish is probably suffering with it inside of there, but I don't think we can get it out without killing it.

ProfessorAgasa: We could prepare the fish now and put it in the ice chest, and remove whatever is inside, though.

EdogawaConan: That might be a good idea....

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Un...

Ayumi: This fish is big enough to feed all of us anyway....*^_^*

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Maybe not Genta-kun though... *gives a dry look at his way*

Ayumi: Ayumi caught dinner! Can we take a picture first?

* ProfessorAgasa nods and grabs the camera.

Ayumi: *^_^*

* Ayumi stands next to the fish, holding it up for the camera.

* Ayumi pulls Conan next to her, since he helped the most with the fish.

* HaibaraAi stands on Ayumi's other side.

* [TsuburayaMitsuhiko] stands next to Haibara

* ProfessorAgasa takes the picture with all of them in it, Ayumi in the middle.

* ProfessorAgasa takes the fish to the ice chest and prepares it using a knife on top.

EdogawaConan: Ah, Genta-kun, your line! *noticing Genta's line shaking*

* ProfessorAgasa extracts the metal piece.

KojimaGenta: Ah?! *runs* I got something too~!

* ProfessorAgasa examines the trinket.

* EdogawaConan comes to look.

EdogawaConan: What is it?

Ayumi: Ayumi wants to see too!

Ayumi: There was something weird in the fish Ayumi caught?

ProfessorAgasa: It's a watch that has lost its strap. There's something etched into the back, but it's too shallow to read.

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Oh.... *looks at it, puzzled*

Ayumi: The fish ate a watch?

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: But what was a watch doing at the bottom of the river?

EdogawaConan: Too shallow? Hmm...*grabs a small handful of mud* Here, let me see.

* ProfessorAgasa hands him the watch.

* EdogawaConan takes the watch and wipes some of the mud over the etching, filling it in to make it more readable.

* ProfessorAgasa notices the watch now reads, "HELP- IN CAVE".

EdogawaConan: Help in cave?

EdogawaConan: Hakase are there any caves around here?

Ayumi: A case....

ProfessorAgasa: It's possible it refers to one of the many river caves along this fishing region.

* ProfessorAgasa indicates the far side of the river, which is the face of a cliff.

Ayumi: Doesn't sound like it's much of a hint....how can we even get there? *looking at the cliff Hakase is pointing to*

ProfessorAgasa: The water erodes caves that go deep inside. It's possible someone needed help and threw their watch out, hoping it would wash downstream.

EdogawaConan: *also looking* Hmm...

* [TsuburayaMitsuhiko] smiles.

ProfessorAgasa: However, there is no cave around here.

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Another mystery… I hope the person isn't too badly injured though...

ProfessorAgasa: The fish may have traveled some time before Ayumi-kun caught it...

EdogawaConan: And then the fish ate it...so now we have no idea how far downstream it's come.

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: It'd take forever for that fish to come over here, wouldn't it?

Ayumi: Ayumi's fish killed someone? *looks upset*

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Not necessarily... The person could have a broken leg or something.

HaibaraAi: They may just be trapped...

ProfessorAgasa: There are several caves upstream and downstream that the fish could have come to: it would have traveled here, remembering that this was a deep, cool spot to find prey in.

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Un...

ProfessorAgasa: Unfortunately, that means that there are still many caves that it could refer to.

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: How are we supposed to narrow them down?

* ProfessorAgasa consults his fish book.

ProfessorAgasa: In the morning, the fish in the river are more likely to travel downstream, and the opposite in the evening.

* EdogawaConan is still frowning at the opposite riverbank, though he's listening to Hakase.

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Even with that... It could have been days or weeks since that watch was dropped, right?

Ayumi: Yeah...

ProfessorAgasa: It's a nice watch though. It seems that despite losing straps and not being water resistant, it's still working.

EdogawaConan: Not water resistant? *turns sharply to look at Hakase, then at the watch*

EdogawaConan: So it is...which means it hasn't been in there very long...

EdogawaConan: Hakase can you find a map of the caves near here?

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Then we know that the person that needs help is still ok!

EdogawaConan: Or at least of all the deep spots?

* ProfessorAgasa nods.

ProfessorAgasa: Like I said, I planned out this location specifically. I have a map at the campsite.

EdogawaConan: Let's see it!

Ayumi: So...the person is maybe OK?

* ProfessorAgasa heads back to the campsite and gets out his map and book of fishing locations.

EdogawaConan: Yeah, they might be, Ayumi-chan. Chances are better the faster we move to help.

Ayumi: Yeah!

ProfessorAgasa: Despite the fact that the watch held together, we don't know how long the fish carried it, so it will be hard to judge...

EdogawaConan: True...but it's at least something. And the watch isn't water resistant, which would limit how long it could have been in the water....

EdogawaConan: Considering it's still ticking...

ProfessorAgasa: The fact that it was swallowed could have protected it from rocks and water pressure, though.

EdogawaConan: Hmmm...*inspects the watch more closely*

EdogawaConan: It was only recently swallowed, because the fish would have died if had been in there long.

ProfessorAgasa: I see.

ProfessorAgasa: In that case, there are about three caves in range of what we would expect a fish to swim carrying a watch...

ProfessorAgasa: Two are downstream from our location, one is upstream, but the fish could have traveled either way to get to its usual hole.

* EdogawaConan moves closer to look at the map.

HaibaraAi: You know, just because it wasn't in the water for a while, doesn't mean wasn't out there...

EdogawaConan: Let's check the upstream one first...

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Then should we split up?

HaibaraAi: *To Mitsuhiko* Splitting up will only cause trouble. We didn't really have anything else planned for today anyway.

* [TsuburayaMitsuhiko] nods.

ProfessorAgasa: The drive shouldn't be long. There's a road to it as well because it is also a fishing ground.

ProfessorAgasa: I doubt anyone will bother our tents.

EdogawaConan: Let's go.

Ayumi: Mm. *follows Conan*

* ProfessorAgasa leads them to the car and gets it started.

{At the cave}

* ProfessorAgasa pulls up at the other fishing site, noting the opening to a cave on the opposite side.

* EdogawaConan jumps out and goes to investigate the cave.

* ProfessorAgasa follows Conan into the cave.

* Ayumi follows along, careful not to get too far away.

* HaibaraAi follows, turning on her watch light

* KojimaGenta follows

* [TsuburayaMitsuhiko] turns on his watchlight and follows close to Haibara

* ProfessorAgasa pulls out a flashlight and scans the cave with the others, before stopping on an unconscious man leaning up against the wall, barely out of reach of the water on a stone rise.

* [TsuburayaMitsuhiko] comes up from behind Hakase

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Ah... He doesn't look too good...

* EdogawaConan goes over to check the unconscious man.

Ayumi: Oh! *eyes go wide* But...at least he's still alive, right? We should call an ambulance....

* ProfessorAgasa nods and gets out his phone and makes a call.

* Ayumi joins Conan, trying to see if there's anything she can do to help.

ProfessorAgasa: I wouldn't move him. If he has a broken bone, it could make it worse, especially because he's unconscious, he can't tell us if he's in pain.

HaibaraAi: Exactly. If he wasn't able to move very much to go outside where he could signal for help, then most likely his leg is broken.

ProfessorAgasa: He's probably cold though, despite being out of water. We shouldn't move him, but I think we had an extra blanket in the beetle...

Ayumi: Ayumi will go get the blanket!

* Ayumi rushes out to the car to grab the blanket.

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Ca- Careful!

* EdogawaConan is checking vitals. He looks a little worried, but not unduly alarmed.

HaibaraAi: Hakase, are you getting a cell signal?

ProfessorAgasa: It's weak, but I'm getting through...Ah, hello!

* ProfessorAgasa proceeds to call for an ambulance.

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Should we get bandages to help stop the bleeding? It could be a while before the ambulance gets here

* ProfessorAgasa gets off the call.

ProfessorAgasa: They're on their way. Also, it looks like he isn't bleeding if you look closely.

ProfessorAgasa: That's good, he might have bled out if he was.

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Oh... Good.

* Ayumi comes back with the blanket and carefully spreads it over the injured man, Conan helping her.

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Good...

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: But what I don't get is... Did he really come alone? What about his friends?

HaibaraAi: *shrug* It could just be that he came in here looking for a big catch. There are many secrets between a man and his rod.

EdogawaConan: \That sounds so wrong....\

* [TsuburayaMitsuhiko] stares at Haibara blankly

* Ayumi gives Ai-chan a confused look.

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: I guess so... Some men would find fishing a real serious sport...like golfing.

* ProfessorAgasa facepalms.

ProfessorAgasa: ---

Ayumi: Or soccer?

[TsuburayaMitsuhiko]: Un!

{Time skip}

HaibaraAi: Hm... A relaxing break turns out to be another mystery...

* HaibaraAi smiles to herself

EdogawaConan: The ambulance arrived not much later, and took the injured fisherman to the hospital. It turned out he'd broken his leg when he slipped, and his cell phone had fallen in the water. Fortunately, he hadn't been in that cave very long when we found him, and he was able to make a full recovery.
