{Episode 12 Sidestory}
{Oniisan}
{Set shortly after they return home. Conan and Ayumi are at Ayumi's home.}
Ayumi: Oniisan?
Ayumi: Mom and Dad won't be back from work for a while...Ayumi...wanted to talk to you...about...the mess...
EdogawaConan: Conan stood with his hands in his pockets. "Yeah... I figured that. What is it that you want to know, Ayumi-chan? Haibara probably already said you shouldn't get involved, right?"
Ayumi: *looks at the floor* Ayumi...wants to apologize for the mess she made of things...if Ayumi hadn't gone running in without listening....
Ayumi: Yeah...*looks back up* Ai-chan said it's too dangerous, and that Ayumi should stay out of it. But...Ayumi wants to help Oniisan catch the bad guys! You have to catch them and break the spell so you can go back to Ran-oneesan...
EdogawaConan: "Ayumi-chan. You know you couldn't have known it was going to happen. Hattori even said that you can't keep blaming yourself." He pursed his lips and looked down. "It's not worth it."
Ayumi: Oniisan? Can Ayumi help, though? Maybe not directly with catching the bad guys...but...maybe Ayumi can help protect Ran-oneesan...or help find a way to break the spell...?
Ayumi: Oh yeah, Ai-chan said we should leave the spell the way it is until we catch the bad guys, because it might help to catch them, since they'll underestimate a kid. Grown-ups always underestimate us...
EdogawaConan: "That is true, Ayumi-chan." He smiled, but it faded. "But this is too dangerous! You saw what happened; it was even too dangerous for Hattori. If Hattori wasn't there to be a distraction, what do you think they would have done to you?"
Ayumi: *looks down* Ayumi wouldn't've made it....and if they cast the same spell on Ayumi that they cast on Oniisan...that would've been worse, wouldn't it? Because...Ayumi doesn't have ten years to give up....
EdogawaConan: Conan nodded. "Exactly. That's why you can't be involved. I know you want to help, but you can't. There is just no humanly way."
Ayumi: Ayumi can at least help keep Ran-oneesan safe, right? Keep her away from them...and tell Oniisan if it looks like the bad guys are doing something....right?
EdogawaConan: "Yeah. You and Mitsuhiko both."
EdogawaConan: He smiled. "You can definitely do that."
Ayumi: Then Ayumi will do her best to keep Ran-oneesan safe!
EdogawaConan: "Un. Just remember that no one can know about this. The fact you and Mitsuhiko know already put us in enough danger as it is. To make matters worse, they saw our faces..." he stops himself because he shouldn't scare Ayumi-chan
Ayumi: Hai....no one can know...
Ayumi: Ayumi won't tell....
Ayumi: Annou...Oniisan....Conan-kun...never really existed, did he? It's been Oniisan the whole time....but...where...how did you come up with the name? And...there's more than just the name, isn't there? Why did you...become Conan-kun?
EdogawaConan: Conan laughed nervously. "Funny story, actually. I was in my house, the ones you guys thought was haunted, and Ran had cornered me in my library and asked for my name. There were some Mystery books behind me; 'Sir Arthur Conan Doyle' and 'Edogawa Ranpo'. Therefore my name became 'Edogawa Conan'."
Ayumi: From the books? *giggles* I guess that makes sense...your house must have a lot of mystery books, Oniisan!
EdogawaConan: "Un! Tons. My dad's a mystery writer. So, I've been around a lot of them."
Ayumi: Wow! *impressed* That sounds cool...but...your mom and dad aren't here, are they?
* Ayumi has decided that this is a good time to learn more about Shinichi, since she already knows "Conan" pretty well.
EdogawaConan: Conan stayed quiet. It was weird for him to talk to himself. In fact, he felt nervous to say what he was saying.
Ayumi: *realizes he's embarrassed and looks down* Sorry...Ayumi shouldn't pry...
Ayumi: Um...*looking back up again* Why did you become Conan? And...how? Nobody really explained, so Ayumi just guessed that the bad guys cast a spell...
EdogawaConan: He shook his head. "I don't mind. But I feel like I am reliving years through you; like when I talked to Ran back in elementary school"
EdogawaConan: "'A spell' is probably the best way to put it. I shouldn't and can't tell you."
Ayumi: So...Ayumi reminds you of Ran-oneesan? *brightens considerably* Maybe Ayumi can keep Oniisan from being quite so lonely...even though there's not much she can do about Ran-oneesan's loneliness...
EdogawaConan: Conan grinned. "Well, you two are very strong and stubborn." He said the later under his breath. "Ran'll be fine..." He looks down. "We just have to find the anti--cure to the spell."
Ayumi: But Ai-chan won't let Ayumi help look for the cure....
EdogawaConan: "That's why we can only wait. Wait patiently and live day by day. Hoping-" He stopped himself again. He should try to stop this conversation before he says something stupid.
Ayumi: Hoping what, Co--Shinichi-oniisan?
EdogawaConan: He shook his head. "Nothing. And you should really just keep calling me 'Conan-kun'. Unlike a certain baka who can't keep his mouth shut."
Ayumi: Heiji-oniisan, you mean? He said that Mitsuhiko-kun found out....
Ayumi: Can I...when it's just us, or just people who already know...can I call you "Oniisan"?
EdogawaConan: "He also keeps calling me Kudou around Ran and Toyama-san...”
Ayumi: Toyama-san? *confused look*
EdogawaConan: "Ah. You've never met her, have you? Toyama Kazuha is Hattori's childhood friend and the daughter of a police officer in
Ayumi: Oh....*^_^*
Ayumi: So she's like Ran-oneesan, right?
EdogawaConan: "Yeah..." Conan sighed. "A lot alike...”
Ayumi: Wow...but...Oniisan....can I call you that when no one is around? That wouldn't tell anyone who you are if they overheard...just that you're older than me...
EdogawaConan: "I-I guess..." He didn't think anything of it. It was true Oniisan alone meant he was older than her. Not how much older.
EdogawaConan: "Though, if Genta were to overhear, then he'd wonder why you are calling me 'oniisan.' Same with the others...”
Ayumi: *smiles brightly* Ayumi will make sure to still call you Conan-kun at school, though, so no one notices...
EdogawaConan: "Un! I'm sure you will do your best." \Hattori, you idiot...\
Ayumi: Genta-kun is silly, though. Ayumi doesn't think it'll be a problem...
EdogawaConan: \Silly is a nice way to put it...\ "Ah... Have you talked to him? Wonder how his stomach is doing...” He made an oioi face
Ayumi: And once the bad guys are caught and we reverse the spell, Oniisan can come back, and marry Ran-oneesan, and live happily ever after! *^_^*
Ayumi: Ah...Ayumi hasn't had a chance to talk to Genta-kun yet...
EdogawaConan: "Oi oi!" He blushed.
Ayumi: What? *gives him a slightly confused look...that's how all the fairy tales end*
EdogawaConan: "It's not like that at all." He blushed and turned away
Ayumi: It's not? What's not? Why not? You like her, don't you?
EdogawaConan: "A-a-a Ayumi. You are a little young for this kind of thing..."
Ayumi: For what kind of thing? *very confused now*
Ayumi: Why does everyone always say that Ayumi is too young??
* Ayumi pouts
EdogawaConan: "You'll know in ten years."
EdogawaConan: "I- It's complicated. That's all."
Ayumi: Ayumi has to wait ten years before she can fall in love or anything like that??
EdogawaConan: "N- No. But..." He rubbed the back of his head. "It's..." He dug his foot into the ground. "It's awkward."
Ayumi: Oh....what's complicated? About Oniisan and Ran-oneesan, you mean? Or...what?
EdogawaConan: "Yeah. I do love her..." He drifts off remembering every time he had returned. But only for a short time.
Ayumi: And Ran-oneesan loves Shinichi-oniisan...right? So...why wouldn't you get married? And that's the way all the fairy tales end...you're like the prince and princess in a fairy tale! So you should get the happy ending at the end, right?
EdogawaConan: He gave her a sad smile. "Ah. A happy ending indeed."
Ayumi: *very bright smile, excited* Yeah! Because you both deserve a happy ending!
EdogawaConan: "Ah. We all want a happy ending. Don't we?" He gave a smirk
Ayumi: Yeah! And you've been fighting for it...for a long time, haven't you? Ever since Ayumi met you...and probably before that...
EdogawaConan: "Un... A long time."
Ayumi: Ayumi will do anything she can to help! Weather it's to help Oniisan catch the bad guys, or find the counterspell, or help Oniisan and Ran-oneesan to feel a little less lonely....anything. Promise. *taking his hand in both of hers and looking into his eyes, her own filled with determination*
EdogawaConan: "Yeah. Thanks, Ayumi-chan." He looked back at her with determination.
Ayumi: *^_^*
Ayumi: And...when Oniisan comes back...you'll kiss Ran-oneesan at least, right? Even if you don't get married right away? Because the princess and the prince always kiss.....
EdogawaConan: Conan glared at her for a second and thought he should at least humor her. "Yeah. I will."
Ayumi: Good! *^_^*
Ayumi: Ne...Oniisan....is there anything that you can tell me...about what happened? About the bad guys that captured us? They were...the same ones who cast the spell on you, weren't they?
EdogawaConan: Conan looked at her with a wry smile. "Ah, those are the people that casted the spell on me."
Ayumi: Oh....
Ayumi: Ne...Oniisan.....can you tell me a little bit about you...as Shinichi, I mean? You told us the story about the library 10 years ago...
Ayumi: And you said your dad writes mystery stories...but your parents don't live here anymore, do they?
EdogawaConan: "They are in
Ayumi: Oh....you lived in that big house all by yourself?? And you weren't lonely?? *impressed*
EdogawaConan: "Weeell, I did have Ran, so that helped. And I spent most of time reading Holmes."
Ayumi: *giggles* Oh...is that how you became such a great detective? Maybe Ayumi should start reading Holmes.....
EdogawaConan: "Hahaha...” He rubbed the back of his head. "Usually Ran would be ready to strangle me right about now. Since I am such a reasoning freak..."
Ayumi: Suri-baka....Oh! *eyes go wide in realization* That's what Sonoko-oneesan calls you, isn't it? I've heard them mention you sometimes...
EdogawaConan: His mouth twitched and nodded.
Ayumi: You don't like Sonoko-oneesan much, do you? Ayumi thinks that Sonoko-oneesan just doesn't like kids...
EdogawaConan: "Yeah. She is quite bothersome..."
Ayumi: *giggles* And she's been bothering you for years and years, hasn't she?
EdogawaConan: "Yup! And I’ve been hearing every word..." His eye twitched.
